Sonic souls installed run12/24/2022 Plans had been in the works to bring the interactive artwork back to San Jose for a multiyear stay in early 2020, but that idea was shelved when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. And don’t worry if you miss opening night, as the installation will be here through 2027. 5, when a free opening reception is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., featuring a performance by San Jose Brazilian percussion and dance group Bloco do Sol, DJ music and food trucks. Its stay was extended a bit, but it was removed the following March with the vague possibility it could return one day. With light patterns pulsing through its 432-foot length along Santa Clara Street, the installation was the backdrop for concerts, fashion shows and a hard drive’s worth of selfies as visitors flocked to City Hall at night. “Sonic Runway,” created by a team led by artists Rob Jensen and Warren Trezevant and designer Stockhausen, made its San Jose debut in late 2017 - the first installation of the city’s Playa to the Paseo initiative, a partnership with the Burning Man Foundation to showcase art created for the iconic desert festival. Well, get your strutting shoes out of the closet because it’s coming back in November - and this time it’s staying for six years. One of San Jose’s most popular attractions in recent years was “Sonic Runway,” the art installation where visitors could walk through a path of 25 sound-activated, illuminated arches in front of San Jose City Hall.
